Construction

All Merlin paddles have a high pressure carbon prepreg shaft that extends most of the way down the blade. Carefully engineered and tested, it is the shaft that bears most of the load on the paddle. Over this shaft is laminated the blade, this is a low temperature wet lay up system designed for flex and toughness.

By separating the construction of the shaft and blade the performance of both units can be maximised and the paddle has a consistent flex with a resulting predictability in the water.

The big difference between the CD2 and the TD2 is the blade construction. The TD2 uses a glass fibre blade whereas the CD2 is carbon. This makes the tip of the TD2 much more flexible; not a bad thing especially if you have problems with your shoulder as it dramatically softens the stroke. It also means that the TD2 a very easy paddle to control, especially if you have poor lower hand strength.
